Join us for an evening of original reggae music from Malawi! Black Lion and Heat Wav will grace the Western Door Stage with a special Sunday performance.
Apatsa Kwilimbe aka Black Lion is a singer, songwriter, guitarist, bassist, and drummer from Lilongwe, Malawi. He is the son of musical legend Bernard Kwilimbe, and grew up traveling and watching his father play in the top national groups while absorbing a variety of styles and skills that have culminated into his unique sound. Kwilimbe delivers original songs in the reggae style while reflecting on themes of love, peace, and national pride. A well known recording artist in his home country, Kwilimbe has emigrated to the United States to share his music and expand artistically. He recently recorded a full length record, scheduled to be released in early 2025. He currently resides in South Bend, Indiana.
He will be joined by Heat Wav Band which at its core consists of drummer John Thomas of Dream Team Live and James Searl of Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad. The two together bring a fiery mix of Sly and Robbie meets Midnite. The slow and the low mixed with high energy urgency - bringing the sweat to the dance floor.
